THE WORKED EXAMPLE / 01
We checked the 96% claim.
Keep the number. Fix what it appears to promise.
1. Start with the tempting sentence
This is a teaching example we wrote, not a quote from the announcement. It changes a narrow performance claim into a promise about all work.
2. Find what was actually measured
OpenAI’s customer account reports Sophos’s reduction in investigation time. The same account describes agents gathering context and analysts retaining judgment at important boundaries.
3. Keep the scope and attribution
Ask who reported the result, what was timed and whether the evidence is independent. This is a vendor customer story, not our own test. Faster investigation is not the same as removing every task.
4. Carry the lesson into your own work
Before repeating a number, write down its source, its measured outcome and its limits. If one is missing, narrow the sentence or leave the claim out.
Does 96% less investigation time mean 96% fewer analysts?
Choose an answer, then compare it with the explanation below.
Read the explanation
No. The measured outcome is time spent investigating in a reported deployment. That result does not establish a staffing reduction. You would need different evidence for that claim.
